11:15 am EST - Trends in Enterprise Open Source

John Mertic - Director of Program Management, Linux Foundation

Misty Decker - Director, Worldwide Product Marketing, AMC Portfolio, Micro Focus

Len Santalucia - CTO, Vicom Infinity, A Converge Company

Alex Kim - Open Source Incubator Advocate, IBM

Forward-thinking organizations no longer consider their IT infrastructure as the cost of doing business but as a competitive advantage. These organizations have various IT services and infrastructure, from SaaS services, cloud-native applications, edge computing, and even mainframe. This hybrid infrastructure isn't an easy out-of-the-box solution. However, the ability to tailor it to their business needs enables them to create better customer experiences and engagement. In this panel, global IT leaders will share how they view and use open source projects including benefits, perceived barriers and strategies that can be applied to your organization.

11:55 am EST - The Path to Amazing Software Through Open Source

Andrew Duckett - Expert Engineer, Discover

The path to building amazing software starts with engineering teams empowered through open source and technology. However, Engineering organizations are dealing with an ever increasing landscape of tools, systems, technologies, compliance, decisions and tasks that developers have to navigate. This leads to decreased productivity and drives what many refer to as Developer Fatigue. This is where a Developer Experience Strategy can help. In this talk, we discuss the journey trough open source and open models of working. You will learn the importance of establishing the foundational graph and community approach to prioritizing use cases and tools. Then transition to how this approach creates the opportunity to reduce cognitive load and simplify the path to the next best action, decision, and ultimately focusing on the things that matter.

1:55 pm EST - The Benefits and Pitfalls of OSS Project Metrics: Measuring Health and Risk in Open Source Communities

Sophia Vargas - Research Analyst, Google

As developers and organizations evaluate where and how to adopt and/or participate in open source projects, many will attempt to collect data and metrics around open source communities to support these decisions. This talk will share common practices around open source project measurement - discussing data sources and metrics selection, as well as presenting a framework for assessing non-security related open source risk.

2:35 pm EST - OPEN SOURCE AT GOLDMAN SACHS

Bella Wiseman - VP/Software Engineer, Goldman Sachs

Priya Gupta - Engineer, OSPO, Goldman Sachs

Kay XiongPachay - Program Manager, Open Source, Goldman Sachs

Vicki Chung - Global Program Manager, OSPO, Goldman Sachs

Rob Moffat - Senior Technical Architect, FINOS

The Open Source Program Office at Goldman Sachs was launched in August 2021, and in just one year it has substantially improved the developer experience at the firm. Join Bella Wiseman, Kay XiongPachay, Priya Gupta, and Vicki Chung at this panel, as they discuss their efforts in building the program to improve developer ergonomics in open source contribution, consumption, and participation.

3:15 pm EST - What's Community Got to Do with It? Navigating Open Source Contributions in the Financial Industry

Maria Ashby - Developer Advocate, Armory

Matt Gogerly - Software Engineer, JP Morgan Chase & Co

The Fintech space has grown exponentially in the last few years. It has a bright future in terms of the quality of engineering and the new projects being proposed. However, this growth relies heavily on the contributions of open source communities. In order to stay on track, the fintech community requires new users who are interested in the intersection of finance and software development to achieve all of its technical goals. In this talk, Maria and Matt will highlight the Spinnaker community as an example of managing open source contributions in a highly regulated industry. Maria will propose a community engagement strategic plan that involves revamping the new user experience for members of FINOS projects, new content ideas, and community support for new members of the fintech community. Matt will share his experience in becoming a top Spinnaker contributor and steering committee member as a software engineer at an investment bank. Finally, they will end with a call- to action for members to get involved in more community events to encourage community growth and retention.

4:15 pm EST - An Open Source Approach to Driving Developer Efficiency

Lee Faus - Global Field CTO, GitLab

Building high performing teams is hard. How is it possible for open source projects to get thousands of stars and tens of thousands of followers when you can't get two developers to collaborate? In this session we will look at using open source concepts to drive collaboration and best practices. We will also determine what types of measurements are important to determine which projects should be secured based on the type of contributions being made across the organization. If you are concerned about onboarding, collaboration and/or developer efficiency, this session is for you. Come learn more about how OSS best practices can drive better communication inside your organization.

4:55 pm EST - Automating Governance - Dear Security, Compliance, and Auditors, We’re Sorry. Love, DevOps

Bill Bensing - Managing Architect, Red Hat

Stop it with the DevSecAuditComplianceOps buzzwords within the software supply chain. Let’s simply talk about Modern Governance. Great software supply chain hygiene requires governance. Governance stinks because we do it wrong. I promise to give you the means to go from commit to production with 100% no-human-hands. All while meeting visibility, security, compliance, and audit requirements without fail. Modern Governance applies to standard line-of-business software, machine learning, edge, IoT, and any other software artifact. DevOps solved the Developer and Operators conflict. It forgot other essential folks of the delivery lifecycle: Security, Compliance, and Audit. It's also missing the newest entrant, Software Supply Chain Management. We will talk about Modern Governance. Modern Governance resolves governance toil with a software engineering approach. It is no different than applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles & practices to the dull, mundane, and toil-ridden governance processes.
