Today marks an important milestone in the life of the Foundation.
When we started the Foundation a little over a year ago, it didn’t take long to realize the overwhelming interest in our community to openly collaborate on the desktop + HTML5 solution for the Symphony ecosystem. And potentially beyond.
The early and ever-growing participation in the Desktop Wrapper Working Group, OpenFin joining the Foundation and the more recent inception of SymphonyElectron are concrete attempts to harmonize such key components for industry-wide interoperability, like the Desktop.
One of the earliest (the third) contributions to be initiated in 2016 was Minuet, the desktop client currently in use with the Symphony platform.
Today, I am happy to announce that Minuet has been contributed to the Symphony Software Foundation - it’s now open sourced and is available in two components:
- The Minuet runtime (based on Chromium and CEF): https://github.com/symphonyoss/SFE-Minuet-DesktopClient
- The Symphony application PGX:

I am especially thrilled because this is a true multi-firm collaborative project, where we have commits from three different member organizations. I want to personally thank all of our members involved to bring this home.
Not only that, but also going through this process improved our community awareness on processes to enable effective open source in financial services. We learned a lot, we collaborate better. More on this one soon...
They say Rome wasn’t built in a day. But one year and almost 50 OSS projects later, and with Minuet now open sourced, I know we are on the right path of building a vibrant community.
