EMBRACING VIRTUAL TO FOSTER OPENNESS AND PROMOTE GROWTH
As the world continues to face a global crisis and specific regions face additional challenges we want to extend our deepest sympathies to those dealing with loss. Our greatest hope is that through these tragedies we can find new ways to come together and provide solutions.
Although our FINOS community may be small in the grand scheme of things we are glad to see an increasing focus on collaboration through our virtual meetups, project contributions, and online meetings. As was pointed out on the FINOS launch day in 2018, we also recognize that "fintech is no different than any other 'tech' sector in that we need more women, people of color, and other traditionally underrepresented communities at the table. The transparency and contribution models of open source projects can be a great on-ramp for anyone interested in technology or problem domain", so we encourage individuals and companies alike to get involved.
We’d also like to take this time to remind our community that we stand by our Code of Conduct and welcome all participants who do too. You can read the details here but these phrases sum it up. Be welcoming. Be considerate. Be respectful. Be careful in the words that you choose. Be kind to others. Be understanding.

NO COMMUNITY IS AN ISLAND
Dear Community,
Before diving into the exciting news from the FINOS-sphere, my heart goes out to all of the communities, like my home country, currently impacted by COVID-19.
The great news is that, despite the world being faced with this unprecedented crisis, we are seeing our momentum continue to grow in existing projects and new opportunities. So, if there’s a silver lining, I believe the world is re-discovering the joy of collaborating for a greater purpose, one that none of us can solve individually and very much in the spirit that open source Communities have embodied since their inception. So I am thankful for being a part of this movement, since, as I shared in this blog post, the Open Source movement will come out stronger on the other side of this crisis.
Now, that doesn’t mean our Foundation, like any other business, will not need to adapt and so we published this Open Letter to the Community detailing our response to COVID-19. Keep reading to learn the many exciting opportunities we are creating for our Community to engage in the age of social distancing.
I hope you enjoy the updates from the team as there’s so much happening (and much more to come in the next weeks!), but in the meanwhile I wish for all of you to stay healthy and safe.

Deepening Open source engagement in 2019
Does 2018 already feel like a distant memory? Surely it's been more than a month since you were gathered around a table with friends and families, catching some sun, cruising some slopes or just enjoying time to yourself. At FINOS we did enjoy some time off but have been back to work reflecting on the successes and challenges of 2018 and figuring out how to help the financial services industry move the needle of open source engagement in 2019. It's hard to believe we started this exciting journey only 9 months ago....but we have some evidence, so check out our oldie but goodie, FINOS launch keynote!
Read Q4 2018 highlights below, which include the launch of three new programs and a fantastic OSSF.
2019 is shaping up to be an exciting year and we hope you will get involved. With 11 active Programs (working groups and projects focused on a specific area) and new Members and participants joining every month there is plenty to discover and deliver. Look for more announcements soon about our programs and events and get in touch if you have questions or can't find what you are looking for.
