This session will look at the key questions to address when crafting a business case for creating an Open Source project. We'll look into common questions that should be answered, including:
- Why do you want to open source a project?
- Why not just give a proprietary product away for free?
- What are your strategic goals? What's your "why"?
- Why do you want to create a community?
- Who will your community / target audience be?
- The relevancy, benefits, and ROI of open source, including looking at the business drivers and goals.
- What organizations are doing internally to adopt open source technology, tools, process, and ways of working.
- What organizations are doing externally, working within an ecosystem of partners and communities—including competitors.
Ultimately, your business case and strategy should articulate why open sourcing a project can benefit your company’s goals.
