Report Abstract
The 4th annual FINOS research report analyzes quantitative and qualitative data to understand industry-wide trends in open source adoption across the financial services industry, including banks, asset managers, hedge funds, fintechs, and more.
This year’s report explores the industry’s progress in enabling contributions, showing a significant increase in contributions but slower growth in the number of contributors as organizations continue to work on the policies and tools needed to streamline contributions while mitigating risks. The report also delves into policies and practices around open source consumption, including the importance of selection and maintenance of OSS to reduce vulnerabilities, security risk, and technical debt.
It examines the crucial role that foundations play in fostering collaboration in this highly regulated industry and how this has led to the development of projects, standards, and shared frameworks that solve industry-specific challenges.
