CDM Masterclass: Key Takeaways & On-Demand Recordings

February 13, 2025

Welcome to the CDM Masterclass recordings, where we explored the latest advancements in the Common Domain Model (CDM). This session brought together industry experts to learn about recent developments, practical applications, and emerging tools designed to make CDM adoption more efficient. Throughout the masterclass, speakers covered topics such as collateral management with the CDM Object Builder, regulatory reporting, and AI-powered automation. We also demonstrated real-world implementations and discussed how AI and automation can enhance CDM-driven financial processes. Watch the presentations to catch up on key insights and innovations.

Hello CDM world

Speaker: Ian Sloyan, FINOS

The CDM is a model for financial products, trades in those products, and the lifecycle events of those trades. By providing a structured framework for trade events, product modeling, and lifecycle management, CDM improves efficiency, regulatory compliance, and interoperability. Developed under FINOS, it is widely adopted by major financial players like J.P. Morgan and BNP Paribas. With built-in industry mappings, composable components, and embedded logic, CDM simplifies automation and enhances data integrity. Businesses can leverage CDM to streamline operations, reduce manual effort, and improve reporting accuracy. Explore CDM on GitHub or through FINOS and Linux Foundation Education's free training.

CDM Object Builder

Speaker: Vernon Alden-Smith, ISDA

The CDM Object Builder is a powerful tool designed to make exploring the CDM easier with an intuitive UI to build CDM objects, like trades, legal documents and eligible collateral specifications - a key area in need of standardization. Instead of relying on inconsistent spreadsheets and manual data entry, the Object Builder allows users to create, structure, and export eligible collateral schedules in a standardized, machine-readable format. With an intuitive interface, users can define collateral assets, issuers, haircuts, and concentration limits—ensuring accuracy and interoperability across financial institutions. Major players like BNY Mellon, Euroclear, and JPMorgan are already engaging with CDM to improve collateral processes. Try out the Object Builder today and experience how CDM can streamline your collateral operations. The open source code for the Object Builder is also available for you to use in your projects, extend and contribute to.

CDM Asset Refactoring

Speaker: Lyteck Lynhiavu, ISDA

The CDM Asset Refactoring initiative streamlines financial product modeling in CDM 6.0, addressing years of accumulated inconsistencies and enhancing support for all transaction types. This update introduces a new asset structure, improves product qualification, rationalizes index modeling, and refactors price and quantity handling to better support FX, interest rate swaps, and other complex instruments. The result is a more consistent, composable, and scalable model that aligns with evolving market needs.

To explore these improvements, check out the relevant CDM documentation, test your product definitions in CDM 6.0 using the Object Builder—a powerful tool for structuring and validating financial instruments within the model. Try it out today!

AI, LLM, and CDM Start Making Sense

Speakers: Luca Borella, FINOS & Oleg Blokhin, Provectus

The LLM Exploration Project, under the FINOS AI Initiative, has been exploring how large language models (LLMs) can enhance financial data standardization, focusing on regulatory interpretation and CDM automation. By leveraging AI for CDM mappings, firms could expand DRR coverage, streamline data transformations, and improve interoperability across jurisdictions and asset classes.

A working prototype is now available, integrating LLMs with CDM documentation to assist with trade modeling, validation, and process automation. Try out the AI-powered CDM chatbot and provide feedback—help shape the future of AI-driven financial standardization!
